General Rules and Organisation of the Tournament

  1. We ask and we encourage parents to stay and look after their children. Organisers are not responsible for the children.
  2. Organisers will ask and register players’ name, year of birth, and ICU rating if they have one.
  3. Only players are allowed to enter the Player Area.
  4. No working electronic or communication devices are allowed within the Player Area. Working mobile phones or other devices may lead to disqualification.
  5. There is only one Section. Each player may face an opponent from a different age group than they are in. The age band results are determined at the end of the tournament based on the positions within the tournament.
  6. General Allegro rules are applied in the tournament. That means, among others, that illegal moves are not necessarily penalised. However, the arbiter may allow the player who played correctly an extra allotment of time, usually one minute. More than five illegal moves in a game may lead to forfeit of the game.
  7. Default time is 5 minutes in each round.
  8. Games are not recorded.
  9. Touch move applies at all times.
  10. Winning can be claimed by checkmate, by time, or if the opponent forfeited the game. If there is a checkmate on the board the time is irrelevant.
  11. We ask players to write and to check the results on the pairing list. Organisers cannot alter the results after the next round pairing is finalised.
  12. Draw can be claimed by 5-fold repetition, by stalemate, or by dead position.
  13. In any doubt, valid claim or question, players are entitled to stop the clock and ask the controllers help.
  14. The Controllers decision is final.
